My Favorite Christmas Songs…The Friends Version Vol. III

Today, we’ll focus on older times and pine for memories from the past. At least this is what the song we’re looking at today asks us to do. Today’s song comes from Rick Platt (@RickPlatt). As Rick pointed out to me in his note, Auld Lang Syne is associated more with New Year’s Day today, than Christmas. Every year, after the ball drops in Times Square to ring in the New Year, everyone starts to sing this song.

Auld Lang Syne can roughly be translated into “for (the sake of) old times”. “Should the memories be forgot” the song asks. I would say definitely not! The lyrics are an old Scottish poem penned by Robert Burns in 1788.

So, since the song is now so closely related to New Year’s, why is it a Christmas memory for Rick? The answer is quite simple. Does anyone remember a little movie called,It’s a Wonderful Life? Do you remember Jimmy Stewart? Of course you do! The full cast of the movie sings the song at the end of the movie.

I’ve included the clip from the movie below. You’ll even get an extra Christmas treat, by watching one of the classic Christmas movie clips of all time. What happens every time a bell rings? We all know the answer to that trivia question!

Thanks, Rick for choosing this great song!
